Melvin Lister (73) Passes Away

Melvin “Moose” C. Lister, 67, of Topeka passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022.

Melvin was born in Topeka on September 23, 1955.  His family moved to Rossville, KS in his youth and he graduated from Rossville High School in 1973.   He was a sheet metal worker with United Sheet Metal Workers #2.  He went through his apprenticeship, becoming a Journeyman sheet metal worker, and went on teaching his craft back to apprentices through his union.  He founded and operated Kaw Valley Body Works for several years in St. Marys.  He then farmed for several more years in St. Marys before returning to metal work.

Melvin was a lifelong learner, always learning a new craft or skill, and applying them in his various projects.  It was widely accepted that if Melvin took on a project, his craftsmanship was going to exceed even the highest of expectations.  He had a passion for Harley Davidsons and riding motorcycles.  He enjoyed fishing with friends on various waters around Topeka.  Melvin made many friends through his various hobbies.

He is survived by a loving family, daughter Sara (Heath) Lawson of Washington; his ex-wife Nancy Lister of Kansas, his brothers, Ronald Lister, Florida; Galen (Geneva) Lister of Kansas, and his nephew, Elijah.

A Celebration of Life event will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Davidson Funeral Home. You are welcome to send plants, so they may live on, in lieu of cut flowers. www.davidsonfuneral.com
