Henry Devader Passes Away

Henry Raymond "Hank" DeVader 96, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024 at his home.

Hank was born May 30, 1927, at Emmett, the son of Edward J. and Marie Natalie DeWilde DeVader.  Hank was raised on a farm near Emmett and lived all of his life in the Emmett and St. Marys communities.

Hank  owned and operated DeVader Floor Covering in St. Marys for many years.  He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 657 and a 4th degree member of Thomas A. McNieve Assembly #289 both in St. Marys.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven DeVader; brothers, Edward Jr., Raphael (Ray), Joe, and Leonard; sisters, Anna Morford, Helen Helget, Mary Kay Berberick and Theresa DeVader; his son-in-law, Larry Cornwell.

Henry and Elaine Mulligan were married October 13, 1956 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Emmett.  She survives at their home.  Other survivors include a son Michael (Peggy ) DeVader, St. Marys; two daughters, Kathy Cornwell, Newton, and Jeannette DeVader, KC, MO.; a daughter-in- law, Jeanne DeVader, St.Marys; seven grandchildren, Emily Kohl, Beth Purdom, Daniel DeVader, Jonathan DeVader, Sarah DeVader, Jennifer Mitchell, and Craig Sanger; 10 great-grandchildren, Makenna, Addison and Taylor Kohl, Quinton and Ezra Purdom, Ella, Haley and Paige Mitchell, Abigail and Liam Sanger.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys.  Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys,  Hank will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00 until the 7:00 P.M. Rosary Friday, January 5, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys.  Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Elara Caring Hospice and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.  To leave online condolences go to www.piperfuneralhome.com.
