James Lawrence Mees, a steadfast pillar of the St. Mary’s community, passed away on June 11, 2025, after a sudden illness, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and service. Born on December 23, 1943, in Oakland, California, he later journeyed to Kansas, where he would carve out a life that touched the hearts of many as the second of five children to Lawrence and Mary (Tenbrink) Mees.
After graduating from St. Marys High School in 1962, Jim pursued higher education at Emporia State College, earning a degree in business that would set the foundation for his successful career as a Certified Public Accountant. His professional journey took him through roles in Topeka and Kansas City before he devoted himself to the St. Marys State Bank, where he dedicated many years until his retirement.
Jim’s contributions extended far beyond his professional life. He was a fixture in the St. Mary’s community, eagerly volunteering his time and energy to various initiatives, all while nurturing a deep commitment to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
