Dorothy Joanne “Dottie” Pokorney, 87, of Silver Lake, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
She was born February 24, 1938, in Clay Center, Kansas, the daughter of Floyd and May (Nemnich) Streeter. She grew up in Clay Center and was a graduate of Clay Center Community High School.
Dottie and her husband Jim owned and operated Pokorney Construction in Silver Lake, KS for many years until retiring.
She was a 50-year member of First Baptist Church in Silver Lake and longtime member of the Loyal Chapter #176 Order of the Eastern Star in Silver Lake, Kansas.
Dorothy married James “Jim” Pokorney on June 5, 1955 in Clay Center, KS. He preceded her in death on February 10, 2020. Survivors include two sons, Sheldon Pokorney (Deb D’Orvilliers) of Lawrence, KS and Kevin Pokorney of Rossville, KS; two grandsons, Shawn Pokorney (Brittany Martin) of Overland Park, KS and Shane (Cassie) Pokorney of Dallas, TX; two great-grandsons, Abel Pokorney of Overland Park, KS and Max Pokorney of Dallas, TX; and her sister, Rita (Corky) Acker of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her two brothers, Bob and Bill Streeter.
Dorothy was an avid bowler and in her 50 plus years of bowling, bowled in Topeka and many tournaments around the country. She loved gardening, traveling and spending time with her grandsons. She rarely missed a televised Royals game, closely followed her K-State Wildcats and traveled the state to watch her grandson’s sporting events.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at the Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka where a funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka.
