No. 8 Rossville (15-11) pushed No. 1 Ellinwood (26-1) to the brink in the state quarterfinals, but Ellinwood was able to survive, securing a 55-48 win.
Ellinwood closed the first half on a 12-1 run, giving the Eagles a 32-21 lead at halftime. Rossville never quit as they put together a 7-0 run the third quarter to pull within striking distance.
After slowing picking Ellinwood apart, Rossville trailed 46-43 with less than seven minutes to play in the game. Rylee Dick had a masterclass in her final game. She hit shot after shot to keep Rossville alive.
Dick nailed a deep 3-pointer with 1:18 left in the game to cut Ellinwood’s lead to 50-48. The Bulldawgs just couldn’t get enough key shots on offense and defensive stops to overtake Ellinwood.
Dick led all scorers with 31 points on 9-for-21 shooting. Nora Burdiek added nine points and 11 rebounds, too.
