Girls Golf Regional

Class 3-2-1A  Girls Golf Regional At Council Grove CC on Oct. 10.  The trio of Emily Woodcock, Danielle Schuler and Kathleen Sowers did well,  but Dawn Ledeboer did not compete seriously eroding the chance of the Rossville team from qualifying for State.

Larry Ross Honored

    Longtime Rossville barber Larry Ross, along with two Topeka barbers,  will be honored  today by Gov. Sam Brownback and Jim Cates, chairman of the Kansas Board of Barbering, for his many years of cutting hair.   The three have been barbering for 117 years total.

#1 HOISINGTON (6-0)
Last: Won 64-8 vs. Nickerson
Hoisington dominated a solid Nickerson team, 64-8, in a big home win. The Cardinals led 21-8 after the first quarter and 46-8 at halftime. The Cardinals have won 23 straight regular season contests. Hoisington’s defense limited Nickerson for 168 total yards, including just 2.7 yards per carry. Hunter Hanzlick opened the scoring for an 8-0 lead, and then Tyler Specht found Cam Davis for a 14-0 lead. After another Nickerson three-and-out, Davis returned the punt for a score.

#2 SILVER LAKE (6-0)
Last: Won 27-14 vs. Riley County
Silver Lake remained perfect with a 27-14 victory against a solid Riley County squad that led 7-0 after the first quarter. The game was tied 14 all at halftime before Silver Lake scored seven points in the third and six in the fourth. Senior quarterback Dalton Dultmeier passed for a nine-yard score to Keenan Baird and rushed for a two-yard touchdown. Baird collected rushing scores of three and five yards.

#3 PHILLIPSBURG (6-0)
Last: Won 50-0 vs. Larned
Phillipsburg stayed perfect with a 50-0 victory versus winless Larned. Two sophomores, quarterback Trey Sides and kicker Jonathan Hunnacutt, had big performances. Sides rushed for 142 yards and a pair of scores and rushed for 88 yards and a TD. Hunnacutt kicked field goals from 27, 38 and 25 yards and finished 5 of 5 on extra points. Senior Mark Coomes finished with 145 rushing yards and a TD.

#4 ROSSVILLE (5-1)
Last: Won 56-7 vs. Burlington
Rossville bounced back from its War on 24 loss to Silver Lake and rolled over Burlington, 56-7. The Bulldawgs had its 32-game winning streak ended with the defeat versus Silver Lake. Jacob Bradshaw threw passes of 50 and 10 yards and rushed for 34 and 40 yard scores. Cole Schumacher caught the 50-yard pass and returned a punt 72 yards for another TD. It marked Rossville’s most points this season.

#5 GARDEN PLAIN (6-0)
Last: Won 59-14 vs. Douglass
Garden Plain rolled over Douglass, 59-14, and didn’t allow any points until the fourth quarter. Nate Pauly contributed in all ways for the undefeated Owls with a 50-yard punt return, runs of 67 and 26 runs and a 56-yard pass. Pauly finished with four carries for 134 yards.

Three Girls In Accident

SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) — Three teen girls were saved from a car that flipped into a creek bed just north of Rossville.
Around 10:30 Friday night the high school girls were headed west on NW 78th Street near NW Carlson Road. The driver lost control of the car, going off of the bridge into the creek bed with 1 foot of water.
Emergency crews  broke open the car to let the girls out. All 3 passengers were taken to a Topeka hospital. None of their injuries are considered life-threatening.

Dawgs Leading Burlington 47-7 at Half (updated)

The Dawgs completely dominated Burliington on Homecoming night.

The Dawgs jumped out to a 28-0 lead with 2 minutes left in the first and were up 35-0 with 11:50 remaining in the second.  But,  they didn't slow up any and had a half-time lead of 49-7.  The Burlington Wildcats had one successful play accounting for their lone TD.  Their QB was scrambling around trying to avoid a sack when one of his receivers got behind the Rossville secondary during all the scrambling and a long pass resulted in their lone TD for the half.

The Dawgs added another seven points in the fourth quarter as  the reserves got a lot of playing time to wind up as 56-7 victors.

The Rossville Invitational Girls Golf Tournament was help Oct. 6 at the Great Life North Golf Club.

St. Marys Volleyball

    The RHS girls lost two volleyball matches to St. Marys, 19-25, 26-24, 21-24 and then 15-25, 15-25, on Oct. 4 at the Rossville gym.  They are now 2-4 in the Mid-East League after previous losses to Silver Lake and wins against Riley Co..
