Ronda Pegram Is Silver Lake Principal


    Ronda Pegram,  principal of Silver Lake Elementary School, is a 1987 graduate of Rossville High.    She received her bachelor's degree and a masters degree in Elem Ed. from KSU,  and also a masters in  Educational Leadership from Washburn U.

The Kaw Valley Cross Country team compete representing their individual schools beginning with today's Mid-East League meet, hosted by Riley County at the Leonardville Golf Course.  If you just want to copy and paste your respective schools' results for announcements or what have you, I have them listed below.  We did have Junior High runners compete, and full results can be found in the attachments.

Volleyball At Rock Creek

  The Rossville volleyball team split in their match at  Rock Creek on Oct. 11.  The Lady Dawgs prevailed in the first match 17-25, 25-20, 25-14, but  lost the second 22-25, 15-25.  They are now 9-18 for the year.

Dawgs Begin Playoffs

    The Dawgs begin District play on Friday,  the first round of playoffs to decide the eventual state champion.       The Dawgs are in Dist Four which includes the following schools.
                  Rossville           5-1
                  Council Grove  5-1
                  Mission Valley  5-1
                  St. Marys          3-3
     This is one of the tougher districts this year with three good teams competing for the two spots in the bi-district playoffs.

Evan Jones (67) Passes Away


    Evan William Jones of Worthington, Ohio died on October 5, 2016 as the result of a fall in his home. He was born in Topeka, KS on June 14, 1949 to Donald Lee Jones and Eleanor Illston Jones of Rossville, KS. He attended Rossville schools but  graduated from Topeka High School in 1967 and that year moved with his family to Worthington. He attended Ohio State University. 
    An accomplished drummer, Evan traveled across the country for nearly 10 years performing as part of the musical trio Fountain, Gardner and Jones. He worked for the Veterans Administration Ambulatory Care Center in Columbus for 25 years in the IT Department and Call Center. For years his was the first voice heard by thousands of veterans and their families. He took great pride in helping them navigate to the appropriate services. He retired from the VA in 2015. He was a member and a Stephen Minister at the Worthington United Methodist Church.
    He was preceded in death by his father Donald Jones and the love of his life Marty Wilkins. He is survived by his mother Eleanor Jones of Worthington ; four brothers David (Joyce) Jones of Columbus, Matt (Kelly) Jones of Roseville, OH, Peter (Jenny) Jones of Worthington, Morgan Jones of Worthington; two sisters: Annie (Adrian) Bennett of Columbus and Amy Jones of Arlington, VA; his stepmother Karen Jones of Worthington and a large extended family.
    A memorial service will be held at 4:30 pm on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Worthington United Methodist Church, 600 High Street in Worthington. The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 3:30 pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Evan’s honor to the Salvation Army or another charity that is meaningful to the donor. Class 3-2-1A  Girls Golf Regional At Council Grove CC on Oct. 10.  The trio of Emily Woodcock, Danielle Schuler and Kathleen Sowers did well,  but Dawn Ledeboer did not compete seriously eroding the chance of the Rossville team from qualifying for State.

Larry Ross Honored

    Longtime Rossville barber Larry Ross, along with two Topeka barbers,  will be honored  today by Gov. Sam Brownback and Jim Cates, chairman of the Kansas Board of Barbering, for his many years of cutting hair.   The three have been barbering for 117 years total.
