Delbert E. Faulk Jr., 85, of Rossville, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020.
He was born August 31, 1935, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Delbert and Nettie (Jacobs) Faulk. He graduated from Dover High School in 1954. He was a US Army veteran, serving from1957 until 1960. After his time in the service, he worked at Rossville Truck and Tractor until 1967, and then worked at Santa Fe Railroad as a machinist for 30 years, retiring on October 29, 1997.
Mr. Faulk was a member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post #31 in Rossville, and a 49 year member of I.A.M. Union.
On December 21, 1954, he married Leona Badura in Rossville. She preceded him in death on September 28, 2020. They were married 65 years and had five children: Marlene (Tim) Coder, Emilie (Mike) Fangman, Dale (Brenda) Faulk, Dean (Oliver) Faulk, and Jewelie (Brad) Ullery. Other survivors include grandchildren, Scott (Ali), Chris, Jennifer (Rodney), James (Deirdre), Laura (Matt), Aaron (Nick), Luke (Jenna), Josh (Abby), Trey (Shellie), Audrey (John), Sara (Mitch) and Holly (Skip); great-grandchildren, Gabe, Ashlyn, Kyler, Kolbi, Evelyn, Breanne, Ayden, Jocelyn, Rylee, Mercy, Avery, Gabby, Karah, Maelee, Reagan, Emma, and Andy; and three siblings Nadine Kelly, Willis Faulk, and Linda (Ken) McDonald.
Delbert and Leona enjoyed camping and traveling; one of their last trips on a motorcycle to New England to see the fall colors.
He was an avid woodworker, making several items for their home, in addition to gifts for his family, from a baby cradle and crib to a china hutch, as well as toys and stepstools for his grandkids and great-grandkids.
He also enjoyed hunting, mostly duck and pheasant, making yearly hunting trips to western Kansas with friends and family; fishing, birdwatching, and working jigsaw puzzles. He did many remodeling projects for neighbors.
As his children grew up, he strongly encouraged music, and began accompanying them on his accordion while they sang at church and family reunions. He and Leona never missed an opportunity to hear their children sing.
Funeral services will be 10 am Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Burial with military honors will follow at Czech-Moravian Cemetery, north of Rossville. Visitation will be 5-7pm Friday, October 16, 2020 at the funeral home.
