ALEX SHERER, ROSSVILLE | TENNIS FRESHMAN
HIS PERFORMANCE: Sherer, a freshman playing in a co-op arrangement with Hayden during the regular season, had a huge week in winning a pair of tournament singles titles. Sherer went 6-0 at the Topeka West Invitational on Monday, posting five straight 8-0 victories before taking the title with an 8-5 win over Kansas City Christian's Caleb Bartels in the finals. On Saturday, Sherer won the singles crown at the Wichita Collegiate Tournament of Champions, capping a 4-0 day with an 8-3 win over Jaden Tredway of Maize South in the championship match. Sherer is 26-1 this season with his lone loss coming to Blue Valley West's Akki Pujari.
COACH'S COMMENT: "Despite never having been a member of a tennis team before, Alex joined our team this spring and was instantly accepted as a member of the squad and a team leader," Hayden coach James Sandstrom said. "Over the course of our season we look at the Tournament of Champions as a great prep meet for state. This year the field was a combination of some of the best teams from 3A, 4A, and 5A. His performance on Saturday was very impressive. In a very deep field his closest match was 8-3. He is peaking at the right time of year and will be one of the favorites in 3A in a couple of weeks."

ROSSVILLE, Kan. (WIBW) - The pawprints that lead to Rossville Grade School head towards a classroom that makes every student feel welcome thanks in part to paraprofessional, Betty Lambotte.
“I love children and I love helping people and I could just see a need,” she said.
She has worked with the Kaw Valley School District for over 25 years.
“I started out with the preschoolers and I just felt a need to be there.”
It took some convincing from a district official all those years ago to take on the job.
The condition, at the time, was that she would only work half days, which did not last long.
“I had seen half days for two weeks and I’ve never seen another half day since [the official] won that’s what happened, she won,” she recalled.
