Riley County Wins 26-20

Riley County was able to complete most of the passes they threw, but the Dawgs were able to handle the Falcons on the runing plays.   Much like the game against St. Marys.   Those many pass completions doomed the Dawg defense.

The Falcons scored two TDs in the first half before the Dawgs scored.   It looked like the Dawgs would finish the first half only down 12-7 but a Riley Co TD with :00 left in the half put them up 20-7.  Rossville then scored  two TDs to tie the score at 20-20.    Looked like it might be an OT game,  but the Falcons scored another 6 points with less than 2 minutes left.  Final Score 26-20 in favor of Riley County.

Doris Gross Passes Away After 81 Yrs of Marriage

Doris Gross passed away peacefully Sunday morning, August 27, 2023. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was affectionately known as Doe Doe (young grandkids had trouble pronouncing Doris, and the nickname stuck).

Born in Delia, Kansas, she moved to Southern California during the depression with her mother and 5 siblings (2 elder siblings, a brother and sister, remained in Kansas). She was in the first graduating class of Dorsey H.S. in Los Angeles. She then worked for Dodge Trophy where she met her future husband, William (Bill) Gross. They dated for a year in which they enjoyed dancing into the wee hours at the Palladium in Los Angeles, enjoying the music of Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, Frank Sinatra and all the big bands of the era. A year later, they eloped and married in Las Vegas where they started their 81 years of marriage. They had two children, Glenn in 1944 and Janice in 1948.Bill went to war in 1944 and Doris, like so many, stayed behind to raise their son.Upon his return from WWII, Bill worked in construction for Chicago Bridge & Iron and his job took him to many locations. In the early years, the family would travel with him, Doris packing up the kids to a new location every 3-6 months. Those jobs took them up and down the West Coast, the Orient and South America. Bill would set up housing and Doris and the kids would follow.Bill retired in 1981 and the couple traveled the world together with friends, relatives or just the two of them.Doris was a beauty and unique individual. She was loved by all that knew her and will be greatly missed by each and every one of us.

Rossville 30. St. Marys 22

RHS got off to a terrible start in their season opener on Sept 1--maybe their worst ever.  St. Marys received the ball first.  After they ran two plays,  the Bears were up 8 points  Rossville then received the ball and after the Dawgs ran two plays the Bears were up 16-0.The Dawgs then were able to score two TDs to bring the score to a respectable 16-14 at the half.  Rossville added two more TDs and a Safety in the third quarter scoring 30 straight points.  The Bears added a TD in the Fourth to make the final score 30-22.

The Bears entered the game ranked #1 in IA and Rossville ranked #8 in 2A.  The Rossville win might move them up a notcch or two and drop St. Marys out of their #1 ranking.
