Margaret Sumner Passes Away

    Margaret Janice (Moore) Sumner, 89, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Midland Hospice. 
    She was born in Delia, KS on January 13, 1929 to Cora Mildred (Zickefooose) and Cyrus Moore. She graduated from Delia High School. She was a homemaker and worked many years in food service for USD 321. On June 7, 1947 she married Charles (Bob) Sumner. They have two sons: Dennis and Vernon and one daughter Nancy. Bob and Margaret raised their family in Delia, KS. Margaret was a very involved member of the Sacred Heart Church. She was also a member of the Altar Society. She enjoyed playing cards and dominos with her friends as well as gardening and sewing.   In 1990 Bob and Margaret moved to St. Marys where they became members of the Immaculate Conception Church. Bob & Margaret always attended the grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events.   For 20 years Bob and Margaret spent their winters in Texas and enjoyed their time there with new and old friends. The last 4 winters they traveled to Phoenix, AZ. Margaret led a very loving, family and faith oriented life.        Survivors include Sons: Dennie (Kathy), Topeka, Vern (Janet), Rossville, Daughter: Nancy (Mike), Phoenix, AZ. Brothers, Jim Moore and Cy Moore, Iowa,  Sister, Carol Moore (Nebraska) Brother-in-laws: Don Sumner (Peg), Topeka and Bill (Kay) Sumner, Topeka. 8 Grandkids, 11 Great-Grandkids, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by her husband, mother and father, 4 brothers: Lloyd (Blackie) Moore, David Moore, Tom Moore and Paul Moore. 1 Sister: Patricia Moore.  
    Margaret will lie in state after 2:00 P.M.at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys, KS on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from with a visitation starting at 5:30 PM and a Rosary following at 7:00 PM. A mass of celebration of life will be at Immaculate Conception Church in St. Marys, KS on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 10 AM. Memorial contributions go to Midland Hospice or Immaculate Conception Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
