Washburn University Institute of Technology students recently won medals at the SkillsUSA Championships held in Louisville, Ky., with 22 of them finishing in the top five.
SkillsUSA Nationals is an annual event that involves more than 6,300 competitors from across the country who compete in 102 different trade, technical and leadership fields.
Among the winners were Cody Bayless and Cameron Smith, both of Topeka, and Tonya Heslet, of Rossville, competitors in the Community Service contest, post-secondary division, who earned a bronze medal. Bayless graduated in May from the auto collision program, Smith graduated in May from the auto service program and Heslet graduated in May from the auto service technician program.
